Hey, I'm Taya!

I am

a student

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and received a B.A. in Honours Philosophy with Distinction.

Before transferring to UBC I attended Capilano University and Lethbridge College. At both institutions, I played for their CCAA women's volleyball teams.

Presently, I am in my second year of law school at Toronto Metropolitan University's Lincoln Alexander School of Law.

a dog mom

I have a three-year-old mini-labradoodle named Rue (yes, she is named after Zendaya's iconic role in Euphoria)! Rue has quickly learned various tricks including selfie, bow, and snoot as seen in the video.

a tech enthusiast

I am passionate about technology, for reasons far beyond the enjoyment that my Apple ecosystem and Nanoleaf's bring me. For one, I hope to share information and learn more about technology solutions for a more efficient lifestyle.

I also hope to pursue a career within the intersection of law and technology to ensure that tech remains user-focused and adequately regulated so that it does not mimic or exaggerate harms presently existing in society.

I am super excited to share that I have published a book:

This Grief Thing F**king Sucks.

As I clarify early on in the book, I am not a writer, nor did I really aspire to be one. Rather I see this book as a conversation, a piece meant to be thought-provoking, rough, and raw. It’s an opportunity to learn about grief, maybe to prepare yourself for grief, or to learn how to help a griever. But ultimately grief is subjective, and incredibly complicated. Hopefully I have captured pieces of that in this book and it can sit within the grief space as an item prompting solidarity and helping others to further understand grief.

As a settler on stolen land, I do not want to be passive in the conversation about Truth and Reconciliation for Canada's Indigenous communities because I want to see Indigenous cultures thrive. I am committed to learning about and acknowledging the histories and legacies of colonialism. Equally, I am committed to helping decolonize and amplify the ideas and voices of those seeking justice for Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Lands. Currently, I reside in Tkaronto, which is situated on the traditional territory of the Wendat, Anishnaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Metis, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, Tkaronto is encompassed by the Toronto Purchase, specifically Treaty No. 13 of 1805 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.
